Qualifications Required

To be considered for this role, you must have a C/4 grade in both GCSE Maths & English, and in three or four other subjects at least. You should have a GCSE, BTEC or A Level in ICT or at least hands-on experience with the workings of computers and IT.

The company require a bright, enthusiastic and hardworking individual with a genuine desire to learn and to build a career in technology. The company are looking for someone with a positive, highly self-motivating, can-do attitude and who isn’t afraid to ask questions.

Skills Required

1. Ability to demonstrate an aptitude and enthusiasm for the skills taught in the apprenticeship, evidencing a strong interest in IT and IT support.
2. Ability to work in a customer-facing role, delivering a high-quality customer experience.
3. Good communication skills.
4. Ability to use Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Access and Outlook effectively.
5. Willingness to work flexibly across a 7 day rota, between 08:00 and 19:00, covering all University sites.

Training to be Provided

CORE MODULES
The apprenticeship contains the following three core key modules which seek to develop the
knowledge, skills and behaviours required to be a successful Information Communications Technician.
The final module is a Pathway module to provide specialist career track skills and knowledge depending
on which track was chosen at the outset from the 3 options available.

Computer Fundamentals & Security
Gain an understanding of the core concepts in computing including hardware, software, security and troubleshooting.

Introduction to Networking & Cloud Services
An introduction to the fundamental cloud
concepts of networking and cloud computing, including networking
modules, devices and protocols.

Communication in Support
Support in IT requires good communications skills. Develop your communications skills by exploring the best practices of support.

Future Prospects

A permanent position is available on completion of the apprenticeship

The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) team comprises the Corporate Information Systems, IT Service Delivery, IT Service Management, Network, and Systems teams.
This position sits in the IT Operations team, which has operational responsibility for IT support, Print and Digitisation and AV services on all University sites, focusing on service quality and the relationship with customers. The successful applicant will work closely with the IT Support team to deliver professional IT services to the students, staff, delegates and visitors of the University.

Job Role
We are looking to recruit an IT Apprentice who is a hardworking, organised individual with flexibility and a willingness to learn.
As an apprentice your main roles and responsibilities will include:
1. Responding to requests for technical assistance from stakeholders using the IT Service Desk tool:
• Proactively managing own call queue.
• Keeping stakeholders informed regarding the status of their request.
• Escalating requests to the CCS Team Leader as required.
2. Administering users and services using the following user admin tools:
• Active Directory
• Azure AD
• Office 365 Services
• Teams
• Intune
• Exchange
3. Configure devices remotely using Microsoft and Apple software management solutions.
4. Perform network troubleshooting.
5. Configure and deliver equipment for users.
6. To work closely with the Client Computing Team Leader Service and other team members to ensure the University’s hardware and software functions appropriately.
7. Performing maintenance on teaching spaces in response to escalated incidents from the Service Desk, referring to external suppliers if required.
8. To work closely with other teams within IT to ensure that students and staff experience professional service delivery.
9. Any other appropriate duties as specified by the Operations Manager.
